Have you ever heard a child say, “When I grow up, I want to be a psychic medium and do readings!”? Even if they were to express that desire, the idea does not get the attention or guidance that it deserves.
You won’t find a career counselor advising a child to be a psychic medium, as they might for a banker, lawyer, and veterinarian.
There is no high school aptitude test to help you decide if you would be best suited to the occupation of a psychic medium. And, it’s not a family business that you can inherit from your parents or grandparents. Ever wondered why?
One is selected to receive this gift, by the higher dimensional beings that we know as ascended masters, angels, high council, and more, to be further evolved during the human experience.
Once the spirits know that you are aware of their existence, and are willing to communicate their messages to their loved ones, word spreads among them.
Before you know it, you assume the position of a Channel. They trust you and they rely on you to convey their messages. Thus, a Psychic Medium is born.
The experience shared above is very akin to what we see in the 1990 Oscar-winning movie Ghost. When it first happened to me, I denied it. I didn’t believe it, and I didn’t want to believe it either. The Universe has a way of pushing mediums on their paths.
It may take longer for some of the mediums to be open to following and committing to that path. Of course, some selected learning and healing have to happen, first. They gain an understanding of the pain and challenges, how karma and lessons work, and how nothing is random.

From personal experience and years of studying this field, I can affirm that this mediumistic ability does not come easy. While it may be something ingrained within the DNA of the Psychic Medium, it’s not something they can snap their fingers about.
In the book Finding Your Way in a Wild New World, Martha Beck informs that at least 10,000 hours of practice at something leads to expertise.
If you do the math, that breaks down to five and a half hours a day, every day for five years. Mediumship is like every other ability; it takes practice, practice, and practice. Some people don’t want to take the mediumistic skills they were born with, to a professional level, and that’s OKAY.
Not everyone with mediumistic abilities was meant to use them for professional purposes. Some have the gift to use them in their personal lives, or as an added asset to their other abilities.

Once I felt a knowing within myself that these mediumship abilities were real, I didn’t want to let them go. I realized I’d been given a gift that could bring peace, happiness, and closure to people in ways that they otherwise couldn’t experience.
As burdensome as it was at times, it was a responsibility I felt I had to assume.
It always amazes me what non-mediums think about those of us who are mediums. I get asked all the time to perform on the spot by friends, acquaintances, and even strangers that I’ve recently met.
I pondered the reasons for such demands and decided that it is most likely because they don’t understand what they don’t experience on their own.
First, you should know the difference between a psychic and a medium. All mediums are psychics because, like everyone else, they are born with an intuitive sense.
- A medium has to be a psychic because they use their psychic abilities for connecting with spirit guides.
- But not all psychics, are mediums because they do not necessarily communicate with the dead. I have both abilities. As a psychic, I am “tuning in” to the energy of the spiritual side; it’s like trying to find a radio station through static.
Once that connection establishes, as a medium, I am “channeling” that spiritual energy and letting the information I receive flow through my psychic senses. Then, I can share it with others with spiritual medium sessions.
